Main physical-and-chemical properties:white suspension with characteristic flavor.
Medications used in functional gastrointestinal disorders.
ATCCode А03А Х13.
Simethicone, as a part of the drug, is a nontoxic inert surface-active agent, produced on the silicon-base; an antifoaming agent. It changes surface tension of gas bubbles in intestine causing their collapse. The gases released may be both absorbed by gut walls and excreted from the body due to the intestinal peristalsis. Simethicone administration before diagnostic examination of digestive tract organs prevents image defects caused by gas bubbles; it promotes proper irrigation of mucous membrane of large intestine with contrast agent that prevents contrasting film rupture even in case of flatulence.
Simethicone acts on the gas bubbles surface only and is not absorbed by the digestive tract mucous membrane. Simethicone is not absorbed by the digestive tract mucous membrane and after peroral administration is excreted intact. Simethiconedoesn’t provide central action.
Symptomatic treatment of gastrointestinal tract disorders, associated with aerogenesis, e.g. meteorism, including during postoperative period, infant colic.
As an adjunct during diagnostic examination of digestive tract organs (X-ray examination, ultrasound investigation) and preparation for gastroduodenoscopy.
Drug interactions and other kinds of interactions.
Levothyroxine may be bind with simethicone. Absorption of levothyroxine in the intestine may be interrupted while simultaneous use with simethicone.
Peculiarities in use.
When there are repeated complaints or longer complaints of digestive tract it is necessary to consult a physician.
Use in pregnancy and lactation.
Clinical data of the Collickidâdrug use by pregnant women are not available. As the active ingredient is not absorbed by the digestive tract mucous membrane, one should not expect any drug influence on a fetus or accumulation of the drug in breast milk.
Administration of the Collickidâdrug during pregnancy and lactation is possible only when the expected benefits for a mother exceed the potential risk for a fetus or child.
Effects on ability to drive or operate machinery.
As simethicone is an inert substance and is not absorbed, the effects on ability to drive or operate machinery are practically excluded.
Administration and dosage.
Gastrointestinal tract disorders, associated with aerogenesis
Frequency of administration
Add Collickid® into the baby food bottle during each feeding or give before/after breastfeeding using a small spoon.
Children 1–6 years old
The drug is administered during or after meal every 4-6 hours.
Children 6–14 years old
Children above 14 years old and adults
Preparation for the diagnostic examination of digestive tract
X-ray examination, ultrasound investigation
Dosage and frequency of administration
The day before the examination
In the morning before the examination
1 ml 3 times a day
2 ml 3 times a day
Preparation for gastroduodenoscopy
Dosage and frequency of administration
If necessary, inject few milliliters of the suspension through the endoscopy channel to remove gas bubbles which prevent examination.
As an antifoaming agent while surface-active agent intoxication (depending on the poisoning severity)
Shake the contents of the bottle well before use. To measure the dose one can use a 2 ml plastic single-use syringe without needle. The drug is administered during or after meal and, if necessary - before bedtime.
Treatment duration depends on the presence of complaints and is determined by a physician individually.
If necessary, Collickid®can be administered for a long time.
If digestive tract disorders are repeated and/or they last for a long time, it is necessary to carry out clinical investigation.
The drug is administered to children from birth.
Till present the overdose cases are unknown. As simethicone is chemically and physiologically inert, intoxication is practically excluded. If bigger doses, other than recommended, are administrated, it is necessary to consult a physician.
